Vin Gordon – Real Rock Originator!

For their headlining set at Freedom Sounds festival, the Trojans will feature none other but VIN GORDON aka Don Drummond Jr. aka Trommie, one of the most prolific Reggae instrumentalists ever.
Vin was introduced to Studio One by Roland Alphonso at the age of sixteen in 1965 and has from then on been a member of classic studio bands like The Soul Brothers, the Soul Vendors, Sound Dimension, The Supersonics, The Revolutionaries, The Aggrovators, The Upsetters and many more. As such he his trombone has enriched thousands of classic recordings from the Ska, Rocksteady and Roots eras.
Together with Jackie Mittoo  he created the instrumental “Real Rock”, which stands as a cornerstone of Reggae to this day. It has probably been used, covered and sampled more times than any other riddim in Reggae, for example by Augutus Pablo (Rockers Rock), Junior Murvin (Coool Out Son), The Clash and Willie Williams (Armagideon Time), KRS-One and Sizzla. Vin Gordon also frequently recorded and played live with Bob Marley & The Wailers. He can be heard on most of Marley`s albums and classic tracks like “Is This Love” or “Exodus”.
